Learning Opportunities

Session Specifics: In this two-part session the presenter will discuss how bringing multimodal composition and multigenre projects in his ELA classroom has increased engagement and student success in both reading and writing. The presenter will discuss his daily class structure, ways to introduce multimodal composition, projects and tasks that he invites students to participate in and how to assess in equitable ways. 

Day One: Session one will look at ways we can help students engage with different texts. We will look at poetry, graphic novels, independent reading, and books clubs. We will talk about classroom set-up, activities to engage learners, and projects including end of task assessments. 

Day Two: Session two will focus more on writing. This session will look at how we incorporate quick writes, mentor texts, and multigenre writing projects to help students develop as writers. We will share projects and exemplars of student work as well as discuss assessment.
