Connecting Aboriginal Games To Your Math Curriculum Delivery

About the Session:

Participants will be introduced to as many traditional Aboriginal games as time permits. You will explore practical ways on how to use the games in the delivery of your Math outcomes covered in the Program of Studies for your grade level. Connections will also be made to Social Studies, Art and Technology. Participants will be given an opportunity to create game samples. This is an active session so come prepared to move, play, and explore Indigenous history through playing these games, at the same time gaining skills to diversify your math curriculum delivery.

Terry Lakey

Terry Lakey is currently working with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Learning Services in Red Deer Public Schools. Prior to joining Red Deer Public Schools in 1999, he taught with Northlands School Division. Since joining Red Deer Public Schools, he has taken on several roles. As well as being a classroom teacher for years, Terry has been involved with the development of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit curriculum resources. He uses the resources for his own classroom, as well as enjoys sharing his ideas with others. He has a passion for making classroom learning engaging, hands on, and covering a wide variety of learning styles.
