Special Notes:
- Each jurisdiction is encouraged to register 5 participants. If jurisdictions haven’t used all their spots, we will open these up to everyone.
- As this day involves many important cultural teachings, it is appropriate and requested that women wear a long skirt or dress to cover their legs.
- As teachings are being shared through oral tradition, we request that laptops are not used and that cell phones are turned off during presentations.
- Divisions attending are responsible for all costs related to transportation, subs and accommodation if applicable.
About the Day:
- Indigenous Culture Camps are opportunities for Elders to share history, culture, traditions and perspectives
- This one day camp is designed to provide Board Trustees and system/school leaders in education with a rich cultural experience that will help develop foundational knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples.
- The teachings will be shared by Elders from Treaty 6 and 7, Metis Region 3 and Nunavut
- Lunch and snacks will be provided. Please bring a refillable water bottle.
Agenda for the Day:
8:00 - 8:30 am Registration and Smudge (optional), coffee and muffins
8:30 - 9:30 am Welcome and Opening Ceremony
9:30 - 12:15 pm Learning Sessions 1-3
12:15 - 1:25 pm Lunch and Metis Dance Troup Performance
1:25 - 3:15 pm Learning Sessions 4 and 5
3:15 - 3:40 pm Treaty 7 Drummers and Dancers Performance
3:40 - 4:00 pm Closing Ceremony and Prayer
