If all teachers are to be teachers of reading and writing, what happens to their content? Disciplinary teachers have been asking that question for years and now we have an answer. Join ReLeah Lent, author of This is Disciplinary Literacy as well as the co-author of her new book (Marsha Voigt), Disciplinary Literacy in Action for a book club that promises to be engaging and relevant. We'll talk about how to infuse literacy as a tool for deep learning in ELA, social studies, science, math and other subjects as well. This series is for teachers as well as administrators who want to be a part of lively discussions that target how to create and sustain change not only in classrooms, grade levels and departments but across the entire school.

was a middle and high school English, social studies and journalism teacher before becoming a founding member of a statewide literacy project at the University of Central Florida. While there, she worked with a team to develop Florida’s Reading Endorsement courses and coordinated literacy leadership teams in schools across the state. She is now an international consultant— speaking, writing, and providing workshops on topics ranging from literacy to leadership teams.
ReLeah has authored eleven books on education and has been published in numerous journals, including Educational Leadership, the Journal of Staff Development, and NCTE’s English Journal as well as being a frequent speaker for these organizations and in many schools and districts. Her latest book titles include This is Disciplinary Literacy: Reading, Writing, Thinking and Doing. . .Content Area by Content Area (Corwin, 2016), and Disciplinary Literacy in Action: How to Create and Sustain a School-wide Culture of Deep Reading, Writing, and Thinking, Common Core CPR: What about the Adolescents Who Struggle. . .or Just Don’t Care? (Corwin, 2013) and Overcoming Textbook Fatigue (ASCD, 2012).
ReLeah is the recipient of both NCTE and ALA’s Intellectual Freedom Award, in addition to being honored with the PEN First Amendment Award in 1999. In 2013 she received state education awards from Wisconsin and Florida.
The first session in this series will be face to face and the presenter will connect online. Participants will receive a copy of the book at the first session.
