Session 1, January 9, 2019:
Better Conversations (registration fee $475)
Based on the book Better Conversations by Jim Knight, this workshop describes essential communication skills for everyone in a school—but especially coaches—to help create a setting where learning will flourish. (materials fee of $50 included)
Session 2, January 28, 2019:
The Impact Cycle (registration fee $495)
Based on the book The Impact Cycle by Jim Knight, this workshop describes the coaching cycle; it is suggested for instructional coaches. (materials fee of $70 included)
Session 3, January 29, 2019:
Coaching to Increase Engagement (registration fee $450)
Based on the Data Toolkit in The Impact Cycle and chapters 5-9 in High-Impact Instruction(both by Jim Knight), participants in this workshop learn how to gather engagement data for (a) defining and assessing engagement, (b) getting a clear picture of reality, (c) setting goals, and (d) monitoring progress toward goals. Participants also learn about five teaching strategies that are proven to increase engagement and learning. (materials fee of $25 included)
Session 4, March 6, 2019:
Creating an Instructional Playbook (registration fee $450)
In settings where a clearly defined set of teaching strategies already exists, we guide coaches and others—such as administrators—through the development of an Instructional Playbook. At the end of this session, participants will have developed a draft of a complete instructional playbook. (materials fee of $25 included)
Jim Knight is the Senior Partner of Instructional Coaching Group and a research associate at the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning. He has spent more than a decade studying instructional coaching, writing several books on the topic. Jim’s articles on instructional coaching have been included in publications such as The Journal of Staff Development, Principal Leadership, The School Administrator,and Teachers Teaching Teachers. Jim directs several research projects, including Pathways to Success, a comprehensive, district-wide school reform project in the Topeka, Kansas, School District. Jim also leads the coaching institutes and the Teaching, Learning, Coaching annual conference. Jim has presented and consulted in more than 40 states, most Canadian provinces, and around the world. He has also won several university teaching, innovation, and service awards.
